3 Ways to Be Waste Free

Becoming waste free can be challenging. Primarily because it’s a new way to look at buying food and household products. Instead of buying only based on convenience you have to consider what happens to that product once you have used it. Here are three easy ways to be more environmentally conscious today.

1. Buy food products that have their own packaging

A lot of our favorite and healthy foods have their own packaging including onions, bananas, apples, avocados, etc. These foods can easily be composted or thrown away without largely affecting the environment. They are also great tasting and great for your body!

2. Replace your plastic water bottle with a reusable one

Replace the dozens of plastic water bottles you bring with you to work, the gym, or when you’re running errands with a reusable canteen or water bottle. It’s a small investment that can actually save you tons of money and help the environment out.

If you drink the recommended 8 glasses of water a day, you could save about $1400 a year on water. That’s right, $1400. That same amount of water will cost you about $0.49 a year if taken from the tap. And hey, that’s what filters are for, right?

3. Check out your nearest refill station

Refill stations like Earthwell Refill help the environment by reducing the amount of waste in the landfills. Bring in your plastic or glass containers from hand soap, lotion, shampoo, conditioner, yogurt tubs, dish soap and more to refill so you’re re-using the packaging.

Products found at refill stations are much better for your body and health than those offered by popular drug stores. These products are usually made with better, safer, and more environmentally conscious ingredients that will treat your body, clothes, and dishes with more care.

So if you’re ready to make the first steps to a better you and a more environmentally aware world without giving up some of the modern luxuries you’ve learned to love and need these are the first 3 steps you should take.

Being environmentally aware doesn’t have to be hard, inconvenient, or drain your wallet or your energy. You can make it easy by altering your current lifestyle without drastic changes and in a way that works for you.
